All the news before today was that the president was going to jet out to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, for the Extra-Ordinary meeting of the ECOWAS Heads of Government. By the time you’re reading this, he very well should have left for Abidjan. But before he left, the president made a surprise visit to Lagos.
In Lagos, the president visited the Police College Ikeja. Apparently, no one was expecting the president in that part of town today. Reports say the police authorities had even rented the college hall for an event.
The president was visibly upset during the visit. First, at the use of the hall, which is illegal. And also, because of the unprecedented access given to the John Momoh owned Channels TV which has been doing a series of reports on the police college.
According to presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, “Mr. President walked the length and breadth of the college, inspected every facility.” The president was worried about the conditions of some of the facilities at the college especially the hostels and toilets.
