The story is going nowhere. Not now that the daggers are drawn and the president’s men are in full attack mode.
The latest to jump into the fray in the ongoing war of words between former World Bank vice president, Obiageli Ezekwesili, and the Federal Government, is Reno Omokri, the special adviser to the president on New Media.
Omokri, who manages the Build Up Nigeria page on Facebook (27,929 likes at at last count), as well as his personal Twitter handle (@renoomokri, with 26,550 followers at last count), took to social media to tweet and posts thinly veiled attacks at Ezekwesili.
Omokri kicked it off with this post (and tweet) about what he saw as a major problem with the country.
Patriots dont wait until they’re out of power before speaking the truth. Truth is constant. It doesn’t become truth only when you lose out.
After that, he tweeted three more times, with the last two being very interesting proverbs.
Wow! With the response to my last tweet Uthman Dan Fodio has been proved right. Conscience IS an open wound. Only truth heals it.
Youths think! A wicked step mother who’s been displaced by a new wife does not lose her wickedness because she offers you sweets.
When the wicked step mother displaced by a new wife settles with the husband of the house the step kids soon find out she was never a friend
Meanwhile, the woman at the centre of the storm, Ezekwesili, countered Maku’s earlier statement in which he said she had it all wrong and was being hypocritical. She did so on Twitter, with a hashtag on her single demand: #NothingButAccountability.
#NOTHINGBUTACCOUNTABILITY: I DEMANDED ACCOUNTABILITY and that’s ALL a CITIZEN ASKS of Govt. Will not STOP asking for ACCOUNTABILITY my dear.
She called on Maku to help explain the “Mathematics” behind the Excess Crude Account (ECA), and described his response as a “big joke.”
#NOTHINGBUTACCOUNTABILITY: Let Mr. Maku go further. As a CITIZEN all I want to KNOW is the Mathematics of the ECA and the Foreign Reserve.:)
Then she challenged the administration to a public debate on the issue of the ECA. Young people on social media have been pleading with the president’s media handlers, Reno Omokri and Reuben Abati, to allow either Labaran Maku or the president himself to take her up on the offer. The chances of that are slim though. The president famously refused to take part in neutral debates during the last presidential campaign.
#NOTHINGBUTACCOUNTABILITY: I CHALLENGE THEM to a PUBLIC DEBATE of FACTS regarding 2007 ECA & F RESERVE and LAST FIVE&HALF YRS OIL REVENUE.:)
This issue doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere. We’ll keep you posted.
