For over four hours on Sunday morning, starting from 4am, men of the Joint Task Force engaged suspected terrorists at Ryan’ Awaki area at Unguwa Uku in Kano state.
It was a bloody duel, at the end of which at least fourteen suspected terrorists including one woman and one female child were killed by operatives of Joint Task Forces (JTF).
One soldier was also killed during the shootout and another was critically injured, according to the commander of the 3rd Brigade in Kano, Brigadier General Iliyasu Abbah.
Dead bodies suspected to be that of the terrorists were seen being carried out of the building . Explosive devices were also recovered from the building and it was suspected that the group planned an Easter day attack. The military officers saw vehicles in the compound which were already primed for attack.
The house where the terrorists were operating from has now been demolished and the corpses deposited in the morgue.
No civilian casualty was recorded.
The military has also confirmed that one of the terrorists’ top commander was arrested during the operation.
