Last week it was the party leader and former governorship candidate of the party in Rivers state, Abiye Sekibo, who resigned from the Rivers chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria. On Monday, Jerry Needam, its publicity secretary followed suit.
Needam insisted that the reason why he dumped the party was strictly based on principles. He said he had to protest against an attempt to use the Acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Esuku Esuku, to desecrate the standard of the ACN in the state.
He said, “My resignation from the ACN is hinged on principle. I want to place on record that there is an attempt to use Esuku M. Esuku, to desecrate the principles on which the Party was conceivably based through the infiltration of the very people, whose political philosophy is diametrically opposed to that of the ACN.”’
He also denied ever using the platform of the ACN to seek monetary gains or political advancement from Amaechi, saying that the people of the state would not forgive him if he did that.
Meanwhile the chairman of the party in the state, Esuku Esuku said that there would be a meeting of the party executive on Tuesday to deliberate on Needam’s resignation. Esuku said that the party might have reasons to reject the resignation of its publicity secretary.
