Rivers state Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Felix Obuah has said that the party will go on with its planned performance evaluation of Public Office Holders elected on its platform despite a suit filed by Governor Rotimi Amaechi to challenge the move in court.
Justice Godpower Opruma of the Port Harcourt High court, who is presiding over the suit brought by the state governor only three days ago, adjourned the hearing till the 4th of July, 2013 when he is expected to take the motion of interlocutory injunction filed by Gov. Amaechi.
But the PDP chairman in the state says he’s undeterred.
According to him, “Every elected member under the Peoples Democratic Party owes allegiance to the Party, we cannot elect people that can come and disgrace us, what we are trying to do is to access our members that we have voted into power to see their level of performances, for those of them who have done very well, we will appreciate them at the level of the Party and even encourage them to do more and take them to higher positions while those of them who have not done well we will be able to caution them appropriately or even sanction them where necessary, so there is no way anybody can say that the party you ride into power cannot access you, if he likes let him go to any court, he must answer to the people that elected them”.
Meanwhile, following the suspension of Governor Amaechi by the National Working Committee of the PDP on May 27 over his alleged refusal to rescind the suspension of the Obio/akpor Local government council chairman, Timothy Nsirim and his executive, the Minister of Education Nyesom Wike says he has taken over the leadership of the party in Rivers State.
Mr. Nyesom wike who gave the hint at the grand finale of the ward to ward sensitization tour of the Grassroots Development Initiative a social political group in Elele, Ikwerre Local government area said his emergence as the acting leader of the Party was necessitated by the suspension of the Leader and State Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
“By the special grace of God, now that the Leader of the Party has been suspended, the Chairman has told me to be acting, so am merely acting as directed by the Chairman, but what you must know is that let nobody deceive us, we are totally for PDP, time will come when I will challenge them eye ball to eye ball, let them look at me eye ball to eye ball, they should leave you alone, they should focus on me because they know me, because I know them and they cannot say anything,” he said.
Wike condemned criticism of the State Commissioner of Police Mbu Joseph Mbu by the state governor. He said the CP is being criticized for not doing the biding of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
“It is surprising to me for the first time, we have seen where now government is now challenging and opposing Police, because Police is not doing their biding, before they will instruct DPO, DPO arrest him, put him in detention no charge no nothing, that time they said the Police was doing well, now that the Police is not harassing us any how for no more charge, they said the Police is not doing well but when they harass people and charge you of all sorts of things Police was doing well”.
