This Wednesday, 26th June is going to be a crucial day in the ongoing struggle for the heart of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. This follows the announcement by the NGF secretariat that the Rivers governor, and winner of last month’s NGF elections has called for a meeting of the forum on that day.
Whereas the faction of the forum loyal to Gov. Jonah Jang has held several emergency meetings since the election was held, Gov. Amaechi has not called for a meeting of the forum preferring instead to reach out to the governors disputing his victory.
It’s unclear whether he has been able to make any headway in the negotiations or if the meeting is going to be a test of wits and might.
The Jang faction has been unable to muster up to 19 governors in any of its meetings since after the election, a fact which Gov. Amaechi touted recently as proof that they lost the election.
The statement also confirmed that governors Jonah Jang of Plateau State; Godswill Akpabio of AkwaIbom; Gabriel Suswam of Benue; Henry Seriake Dickson and other thirty-one State governors have been invited for the meeting.
