The PDP is crying foul in Osun state. A section of its party secretariat was marked for demolition by the state government to pirsue its beautification program but the PDP says that it was all about politics and victimisation. The party says that the governor is worried about how popular the party has become in the state.
Some PDP supporters prevented officials of the state government from carrying out any demolition on Friday, threatening them with weapons.
The party chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa stated on Saturday that “Nobody is against the development of Osun but the problem is that the demolitions of people’s properties should follow due process such as giving adequate compensations to those whose properties are destroyed.”
Initially the party had argued that they were not given adequate notice, although the state government through the information commissioner insisted that the PDP had been informed since December last year.
The government also pointed out that portions of the campaign secretariat of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola were also marked for demolition which was carried out on Friday as well, wondering why the PDP was crying foul. The PDP secretariat lies a few metres away from the Aregbesola campaign office on the Osogbo-Gbongan Road.
