It was another black night on Monday in Kano as coordinated explosions claimed over twenty lives. The horrible incident occurred in the Sabongari area of the city.
No group has claimed responsibility yet.
Sabon Gari was also the scene of the last major explosion in Kano in which suicide bombers rammed an explosive laden vehicle into a bus full of passengers travelling to the eastern part of the country.
According to eyewitness account, people had gathered at the popular Enugu Road, close to Forest Villa Hotel to relax, after the day’s work. Suddenly, a Mercedes Benz 190 salon car, which had been parked on the road, exploded. The explosion shattered the windshield of five other cars parked by the side of the street and destroyed a kiosk. Many people were lying on the ground seriously injured. The whereabouts of the owner of the kiosk remained unknown. There was pandemonium any were injured in the stampede.
When contacted, spokesperson of the Police in Kano, Magaji Musa Majiya, said the Commissioner of Police and other top security officials were already at the scenes of the explosions and that exact casualty figure would be released when proper appraisal of the crime scene was concluded.
He, however, confirmed that two explosive devices were set off along Igbo Enugu Road at a drinking spot, while another was set off at New Road where some residents were playing snooker.
Eyewitnesses said no fewer than 20 people were feared dead, following the burning down of a Pentecostal church located on 38/39 and 40/41 New Road.
