An early reaction to the split within the Peoples Democratic Party today has come from the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 elections, Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu welcomed the break-up which was led by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and seven governors in the PDP. Ribadu is famous for leading the Obasanjo team’s massive attack against the former vice president on charges of corruption.
But today, in a series of tweets he seemed to be calling on the break-away group to look beyond the PDP and to join the opposition, where Ribadu has since pitched his tent. He also described their move as “courageous.”
Here are the tweets from Ribadu:
The governors and other chieftains have demonstrated courage and damn the it’s-PDP-or-nothing myth that has held the party together
I hope the dissenters will look beyond their immediate interests in deepening our nascent democracy. Opportunities do exist beyond PDP
