The process which Gov. Rotimi Amaechi promised to take before deciding whether to switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not a very straightforward one. He told the APC delegation which visited him in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that first, he would consult with “the people,” then, because he is from the South-South zone, he would also consult with President Jonathan.
In Kwara state, they do not have that problem. For one, the president is not from that zone, so he apparently doesn’t need to be consulted. And then the people… who exactly are “the people” when you have “the person”: Bukola Saraki?
So today, when the APC delegation arrived in Kwara, the political leadership in that state told them that they had listened to the APC offer but would wait on the party leader in the state and senator representing Kwara Central, Bukola Saraki, to make the “right decision that would be beneficial to the citizens.”
They gave this straightforward response to the APC team which included former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande.
The APC team on their part called for collaborative efforts of all Nigerians to address the challenges in the country.
