Nkiruka Onyejeocha is the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on aviation which investigated #Stellagate, the widely publicised controversy over the purchase of two bullet-proof cars worth N220 million by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, with the approval of the minister of aviation Stella Oduah. On Thursday, Onyejeocha was terribly upset that details of the committee’s report which had not even been tabled before the house were leaked to the media.
Apparently, a member of the committee had felt that the final report of the committee which recommended the sack of the aviation minister could be doctored, and so the person leaked the report.
Onyejeocha told a journalist who sought to get her reaction that, “Up till this morning, we were still writing this report; I don’t know where you newspaper people got what you reported from. It is just that this investigation is sensitive; I would have disowned the entire report and call for a repeat of the investigation.”
According to reports, the committee is now torn as a result of the leak because members now distrust each other.
A member of the committee told The Punch that “The chairman has been raking all day; she has been restless. She has asked almost all members of the committee how the media got what they reported today (Thursday). The matter caused disquiet among the members; they are seriously suspecting one another.”
Onyejeocha however tabled the report before the House on Thursday but did not disclose details.
