The steps reportedly being taken by the Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola to transform the state of Osun has not gone unnoticed as eminent traditional ruler, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, heaped praises on the governor for his “sterling performance”.
The Osun state governor was singled out for commendation by the Sultan at the weekend in Sokoto when members of the Nigeria Governors Forum paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
The first class traditional ruler stated, “My brother, Rauf Aregbesola is here with all of you. I was in Osogbo, his state capital sometimes this year I think I have visited his state four times and I am still willing to visit again. There is no doubt that he is doing wonderfully well.”
The governors, led by the Chairman, Rotimi Amaechi, were in Sokoto for the annual NGF retreat. Other eminent personalities were with them, including speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, Professor Wole Soyinka and former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu.
The monarch also used the occasion to condemn the spate of killings in the name of Islam. “Sokoto is the centre of Islam even though I know that Islam had reached some other places between 500 to 600 years ago. Today, I am surprised the way some people are behaving. Islam is the opposite of violence I don’t know where those who kill and shed blood of innocent people got their own ideology because Islam is averse to killing fellow human beings. In fact, in Islam, it amounts to killing a whole nation if one kills just one person.”
The Sultan also presented a book to the NGF chairman which he said would be beneficial to people of any religion who are interested in knowing Islam’s position on fundamental issues such as war and peace. The book was written by the late Sultan Muhammad Bello.
