Just last week, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former Ogun governor was protesting his alleged expulsion from the Labour Party, saying that he never even joined the party in the first place. By Sunday however, he was singing a different tune as the national leadership of the party crowned him as the leader of the party in the state, a development which Daniel said marked a “new dawn” for the Labour Party.
The Labour Party which held its National Executive Committee meeting in Akure, Ondo State capital, reportedly endorsed Daniel as a national leader and head of the party in Ogun, while apologising to him “for certain skirmishes that were noticed prior to the meeting.”
Consequently the national chairman of the party, Dan Iwuayanwu, assured Daniel of the firmest support of the party and “directed all stakeholders, both stale and new to defer to Daniel in all matters concerning the party in Ogun state.” The chairman also said that the former party executive members who tried to cast aspersion on Daniel’s person have been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for further action.
Also speaking, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State expressed his admiration and respect for Daniel, describing him as “the biggest stakeholder in the Ogun project today.” Mimiko said that the party cannot afford to miss out on the opportunity to leverage on the intellectual and political sagacity that Otunba Gbenga Daniel brings to the table with his presence in the party.
In his response, OGD thanked the national chairman and other national executives for reposing great confidence in him. He assured the party that he was ready to bring his dexterity to bear on the fortunes of the party, promising to deliver the state to Labour Party. He stated that his political machinery was well oiled and raring to go all the way in emancipating Ogun people on the “undefiled platform” of the Labour party.
Daniel who led Ogun for eight years as a PDP governor said that the Ogun project was too tasking to be left in the hands of political minions and pretenders, urging all well-meaning members of the party in the state to join hands with him in the march to restore hope in Ogun State. He further noted that his role in this dispensation was to provide leadership for various interests in the party adding that he is not averse to the aspiration of any candidate wishing to fly on the Labour platform stating that as a good father, his ultimate aim is to protect all his children and ensure that only the best materials are presented to Ogun people as the state is too sophisticated to concede leadership to weak and disingenuous individuals especially in a period when the state is still smarting from her mistake having purchased a fake, cosmetic and rudderless leadership in the present government via the last general elections.
He said he had forgiven his traducers and urged “all prodigal sons to return home.”
Meanwhile a harmonization committee has been inaugurated under the leadership of Otunba Gbenga Daniel to facilitate the setting up of a new state party executive.
