For failing to pay for services rendered to them and their refusal to settle their debts, the Nigerian Postal Service has threatened to withhold mails for the 34 local government councils of Katsina State.
According to the postal manager in the state, Alex Bature, who addressed newsmen in Katsina on Monday, the local government councils have accumulated debts amounting to N3 million and several letters sent to the councils to settle their debts have been ignored. This has resulted in several sensitive mails addressed to the local councils being witheld by the Postal Service.
Bature stated, “We visited the local government councils but it was difficult to see the council chairmen to register our complaints.”
He urged individuals and organisations to promptly pay for services rendered to them by the postal service as that was the only way by which they can solve their financial problems since the postal service is not a profit making organization.
The postal officer revealed that the postal service has entered an agreement with the state ministry of education for prompt payment, adding that a substantial amount of money has already been released to them.
