Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has been commended by the Anglican Bishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Owen Nwokolo, for the grants given by the state government to rebuild hospitals returned to churches. He said that the grants have helped to revitalise health facilities that are now owned by the Church.
Nwokolo said this while receiving a cheque worth N100 million for ongoing work at the Iyienu Hospital. He said none of the cheques received from the state government was dishonoured by banks.
“All the cheques given to us are real. If you are in doubt, I invite you to tour our health and educational facilities to see things for yourselves. With the type of support the government of Anambra State has extended to us, very soon our people will stop going to India for medical treatment, as our health institutions are undergoing tremendous facelift,” he said.
The bishop said that the church engages in health, education and other service to the people in order to improve society and standard of living. He therefore called on other state governors to emulate Obi’s example in offering support to the church.
