As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues its regrouping towards 2015, Kaduna state will host the North West zonal rally of the party.
Nigeria’s president Goodluck Jonathan, as well as vice president Namadi Sambo who was a former governor of the state, are expected to attend the zonal rally. Already, a zonal rally has been held in the North Central.
Preparatory to the event, the host governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero, spoke at a meeting of PDP stakeholders in Kaduna yesterday, where he urged all members of the party to leave the past behind.
He spoke a message of reconciliation, asking that those who defected to other parties should forgive him if he had offended them. He pleaded that they all return to the party ahead of the 2015 elections.
On his part, the governor said he had forgiven those who might have stepped on his toes.
He stressed that the meeting, which was attended by PDP stakeholders from the North-west, was a clear indication that the party remains the strongest party in the state.
He also asked for party members to wait for their turn if they feel that they are not benefiting from the party at the moment.
“PDP has been in power in Kaduna State since 1999 and many among us have benefited from the party. Everyone one had his time, if you have benefited before and now you are not, it could be a test from the Almighty but patience is the key as tomorrow may be your turn.
“Even if a stakeholder has one leg in PDP and one leg outside, once he did not return his PDP card, he is still in the PDP as far as I’m concerned.
“He might be in that position because of certain doubts, but now that they would be inaugurated. he will be sure of a future in the party.
“I have forgiven all who offended me because I don’t want to stand before God and be judged because of anybody due to my position as a governor. I also plead with everybody to forgive me too.
“I want PDP to be successful, power comes from God and there shouldn’t be thuggery or violence in the struggle for power,” he said.
