President Goodluck Jonathan has called former military ruler Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on the phone following the bomb attack that affected the retired general’s convoy in Kawo, Kaduna, while on his way to his hometown of Daura yesterday. The general was unhurt although some aides of his sustained injuries.
The Cable newspaper is reporting that the president called to express his sympathy over the incident and assured Gen. Buhari that a proper investigation will be carried out.
A source was quoted by the paper, who said that the conversation between the two men was warm and cordial.
Earlier this week, the camps of the two leaders were locked in a war of words over the impeachment of ex-Gov. Nyako of Adamawa and the threat on Nasarawa governor Tanko Al-makura.
Buhari described the blast as an assassination attempt. His vehicle was completely destroyed and several people were killed, although his security aides also survived the attack.
