A 13-year-old girl was gang-raped by four young men at Tudun Rubudi in Ungogo local government area of Kano state. The men – Sani Isa, Usaini Ja’afar, Jamilu Sani and Isa Musa – were caught and arrested by the Kano state Hisbah Board after they were found naked at an uncompleted building shortly after raping the girl.
The men confessed to their crime and bizarrely, one of them – Usaini Ja’afar – requested to marry the defiled child and asked for the blesssings of her father.
Now, the father of the victim, Malam Ya’u has granted that request to give his 13-year-old daughter in marriage to the man who raped her.
Ya’u, a mechanic, spoke to Weekly Trust on why he accepted such a proposition. He said that he took the men to court but “when all of them showed remorse, especially the one pleading to marry her, Ja’afar, I decided to temper justice with mercy.”
Speaking further, Ya’u said that Ja’afar came with his uncle “who it turned out I already knew and had a cordial relationship with. So I accepted the request and will marry her off to him. In fact, the date for the wedding has been fixed since. I decided to allow him marry the girl because our consultations with our Malams (Islamic clerics) showed that there is nothing wrong about that.”
The father said that he succumbed to the pleas “from all angles” especially as medical tests show that his daughter is “okay.” He said that he would accept Ja’afar as a son-in-law and has since had a meeting with him where he “told him the implication of what he’s done and advised him to become a more responsible person who would be useful to himself and society.”
