Three bombing went off in Maiduguri, the Borno capital on Saturday. Reports say that at least 47 people were killed in the attacks.
At least one of the bombings was carried out by a female suicide bomber.
Many children were among the dead and at least 50 others were wounded in the explosions that hit two crowded markets and a busy bus station.
The governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, was in the middle of a campaign rally in Hawul local government area of the state when he heard the news.
The Governor according to a statement by his media aide, Isa Gusau condemned the attacks and condoled with families and friends of those that lost their loved ones.
Shettima reportedly stopped party members from making campaign speeches and instead, led prayers for repose of victims of the bomb blasts when he heard the news.
Meanwhile the governor has directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to visit all affected areas and ensure speedy evacuation of victims to hospitals and mobilize medical doctors for emergency treatment that will be paid for by the State Government.
