6 congratulatory messages to Buhari that have really surprised us

By Onome Oraka

Politics is a most exciting drama and in the Nigerian clime, you never know what to expect.

The 2015 Presidential elections proved to us that in politics, there are no permanent friends or permanent foes, only permanent interests. From the pre-election period to March 28 till date, Nigerians have been entertained by the activities of her political leaders. The soap opera has continued with the announcement of the Presidential results on March 31s 2015.

President-elect Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has had his fair share of insults in this drama, he has been called a religious bigot, a fanatic, a sponsor of Boko Haram, an illiterate, a dead brain, a baby, a puppet, a neo-dictator by PDP faithfuls in course of the election campaign. After the elections however, this same Buhari has been acknowledged by same people as the People’s General, the will of the people and the Abraham Lincoln of Nigeria!

Success has no enemies and failure has no friends. For our readers, the Scoop has captioned some moments of this drama. Enjoy!

1. Gani Adams – National Leader, Oodua People’s Congress. Recently got a huge pipeline protection contract from Pres. Goodluck Jonathan.

Before the elections – “Buhari cannot change the system. Goodluck Jonathan has more character and leadership qualities to rule Nigeria than General Muhammadu Buhari”.

After the elections– “I commend his (Buhari) resilience and tenacity over the years which have seen him equal the record of great leaders like Abraham Lincoln of the USA”.

2. Femi Fani-Kayode– PDP Presidential Campaign Spokesman and Buhari’s accuser-in-chief who made a meal about Buhari’s age, health, tribe and religion.

Before the elections – “We believe that General Buhari represents the darkness and President Jonathan represents the light. General Buhari represents a return to the ugly past which is best forgotten”.

After the elections– “I had nothing personal against anybody. I was simply doing my job for which I have no regrets for and I wish them well and I sincerely hope they will take Nigeria to a level that we can all be proud of”.

3. Asari Dokubo – Leader, Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force

Before the elections – “An old, tired, no qualification, kunu-drinking, Hausa/Fulani cattle rearer or a young active, vibrant PhD holder? Choose wisely. If Jonathan loses, we would set Nigeria on fire”.

After the elections – “I am not a creation of Jonathan, before Jonathan there was Asari, after him there will be an Asari. I am a friend to any Government in Power.

PS: We hear he has denied this now.

4. Ayo Fayose – Governor, Ekiti State. Buhari will never forget Fayose for the hell that the governor raised against him, from death-wishing adverts to tens of press statements daily.

Before the elections: “Buhari does not have the required mental and physical strength to be President. He said he is going to fight corruption, can a man like Buhari who can hardly do anything on his own because of ill-health fight anything?

After the elections: “I salute Major- General Buhari for being a resilient and dogged fighter”.

5. Ayo Oritsejafor – President, Christian Association of Nigeria, who has very close ties wih Pres. Jonathan.

Before the elections: “He (Buhari) is therefore the Prime leader of this religious and blood-thirsty sect called Boko Haram. This is why I call for the arrest of Buhari now. Buhari is a big security risk to Nigeria’s corporate existence”.

After the elections:  “Oritsejafor congratulated Buhari calling for a harmony between Christians and Muslims”.

6. MEND – Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, even though we don’ know who exactly represents MEND these days based on the conflicting statements they release.

Before the elections: “We will shut Nigeria’s production down if President Goodluck Jonathan does not return to office”.

After the elections: “President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari’s message of hope, freedom and opportunity resonates with our group. We are confident that under your leadership, Nigeria will once again regain its peace and security”.
