Imo governorship election declared as inconclusive; supplementary election to be held

By Segun Odeleye

Social media and most pundits had called the Imo governorship election for Gov. Rochas Okorocha. By the time all the results were announced, the governor, who was the candidate of the APC, was leading with 79,529 votes.

However, that was not enough due to the fact that 144,715 votes were cancelled, which is less than the gap between Okorocha and his PDP challenger, Emeka Ihedioha.

The Independent National Electoral Commission subsequently declared the election as inconclusive.

The Returning Officer, Professor Ibidapo Obe, said that a new date would be announced for a supplementary election in the cancelled wards spread across several local government areas.

So far, Okorocha has 385,671 votes while Ihedioha has 306,142 votes.
