But for the wisdom and political tact of members of the All Progressives Congress, the South-South would probably be in a state of chaos. This inference was made by erstwhile Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipreye Sylva yesterday at a meeting with press men in the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja.
Addressing the reporters, Silva pointed out that the onslaught of the Peoples Democratic Party on members and supporters of the APC practically pushed the party to the wall and only the application of wisdom stopped reprisals which in all truth would have been catastrophic.
He also affirmed that the PDP had planned on rigging the elections while wreaking chaos, a different agenda from the APC which stuck with preparing for free and fair elections.
He said: “I am sure the nation knows that those of us from the Southsouth who are members of the APC are committed. What happened was not because we are not committed; it is a situation of choosing between the lives of our people and the death that PDP brought.”
Felicitating over the massive victory of the party in the Northern part of the country, Sylva noted that the party’s victory has rescued the nation from the abyss as Nigeria was already at a dangerous point.
The former Governor also pointed out that a victory for President Goodluck Jonathan would have been disastrous for the nation as it meant the continuity of corruption.
The former governor however noted that the party was gearing up for their next play, which is the contesting of results that swung the PDP’s way in the SouthSouth.
Speaking on this he explained that there were clear cases of rigging and even murder with election materials being seized at some locations.
