Members of the House of Representatives today by voice vote rejected the hearing of a motion seeking the removal of oil subsidy.
A Kogi lawmaker, Hon. Sunday Kareemi (PDP), had raised a motion for the removal titled ‘The recurring crisis of fuel subsidy’.
However lawmakers took turns to condemn the suggestion, stressing that it is anti-people to remove fuel subsidy at this time.
In rejecting the motion, the lawmakers must have remembered the chaos which ensued the last time the federal government attempted to remove oil subsidy as Nigerians took to the streets in protest in what is now popularly referred to as the Occupy Nigeria protest.
