Rivers assembly suspends three council chairmen; summons nine commissioners

The Rivers State House of Assembly today summoned 9 commissioners and 4 heads of government agencies for an interview session tomorrow May 12, 2015.

The 9 commissioners summoned are those of Finance, Agriculture, Power, Health, Tourism, Information, Transport, Works and Budget.

The Accountant General of Rivers State, Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, Chairman, Rivers State Assembly Commission and Chairman, Secondary School Management Board were also summoned by the RSHA.

The deputy leader of the RSHA, Nname Ehwor raised the motion on the state of the Economy of Rivers State before the house and it was supported by the members of the assembly. Leyii Kwane, the deputy speaker of the RSHA who presided over the assembly then moved the motion for their summon.

The Rivers State House of Assembly also suspended three local government committee chairmen over allegations of insecurity and financial recklessness.

They include those of Khana local government, Asari Toru local government and Ahoada East Local government. In line with the motion on Insecurity and Financial Management, the state assembly led by Nname Ehwor, suspended the three LG caretaker committee chairmen and ordered them to submit to the Head of Local Government of their councils.

Speaking with newsmen after the assembly’s sitting, Leyii Kwanee, the deputy Speaker of the Assembly revealed that the action was part of their oversight duty adding that their aim was not to witch-hunt anybody.

“We are not doing this to witch- hunt anybody. We are all here as Rivers men. We are all here as stakeholder to see how best we can take this state forward. The Executives may have some challenges and that is exactly why we want to hear from them”, Kwane said.
