A former minister of works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, has added his voice to the growing list of those commenting about the drama in the senate this week which saw Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara emerge as senate president and speaker of the House of Representatives despite the opposition of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
For Ogunlewe, who is a Lagos PDP chieftain, it was a defeat for APC leader, Bola Tinubu. Considering how much defeat Tinubu had spearheaded APC victories in Lagos in the past, the loss of his preferred candidates was good news to Ogunlewe.
Declaring that nobody should shed tears for Tinubu, Ogunlewe said it was a thing of joy that Tinubu was beaten kn his own game.
According to him; “Saraki’s emergence has proved that nobody is invincible. It is good that Tinubu has been beaten to his own game. He has been demystified. Tinubu is a master, but the politics of Saraki’s emergence has shown that Tinubu has superior masters.
‘’It is a pity that some Nigerians have short memories, otherwise they would have remembered that Tinubu is being paid back in his own coins. He conspired with some elements in PDP in the last House of Representatives to frustrate the emergence of Hon Mulikat Adeola as PDP’s choice for the position of the Speaker. It was Tinubu that hatched the plot that led to the emergence of Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker instead of Adeola,PDP’s choice. As the saying goes, what goes round comes round . Tinubu and his boys should stop ranting. What you sow is what you reap.It is pay time back for them. That is the law of karma’’, he stated.
Advising Saraki to watch his back and also to be vigilant, Ogunlewe said Tinubu should not be underrated.
“Although Tinubu has been bruised, but I want to tell you that he is a fighter. He has money. He would not sit idly and watch his political empire crumble. He is not taking what is happening lightly. You may see him smiling but I can tell you he won’t accept defeat like that. This is one of the reasons why we have not been able to tame or subdue him in Lagos. Tinubu has a lot of money. Tinubu has been using money to get political power but I like the way Saraki dealt with him . Saraki should however watch it.He should not go to sleep thinking he has conquered his opponent,’ he declared.
While praising members of the National Assembly that elected Saraki and Dogara, Ogunlewe described them as patriots who put national interests above parochial interests.
“With what these lawmakers have done, we now have a national government that is accomodating opposition’s interests. PDP is now part of government with Ekweremadu‘s emergence as Deputy Senate President. I’m happy for the President. Buhari should consider himself a lucky man as he now will be working with a National Assembly that is accommodating.”
