On Saturday, at the inauguration of new commissioners in Kano State, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced the reduction of salaries and allowances of political office holders.
Those to be affected by the pay slash include the governor himself, his deputy, the newly sworn in 13 commissioners and special advisers.
Ganduje said that the salary cut has become necessary due to the Revenue shortfall being experienced in the nation as a result.
He described the action as a needed sacrifice to be undertaken by the political office holders for the survival of the government.
He however said that when things normalise in the economy, the government officials will be rewarded for their sacrifices.
It should be noted however that Gov. Ganduje did not announce by what rate the pay if the political office holders will be cut.
