The reports that Christians in Kano state have been banned from going to church on the last Sundays of every month by the state government are false.
This clarification was made by the Kano state government which described the rumour as unfortunate, sad and malicious.
Responding on behalf of the government, the state’s Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Comrade Muhammad Garba, said, “the story is a complete lie, false, lacks any iota of truth and substance, mischievous and aimed at tarnishing the image and good reputation of governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his administration.”
The report had claimed that Christian leaders tried to plead with the APC administration in the state to rescind the decision but were unsuccessful. Garba said that was not true.
“It is filled with lies, subjectivity, sentiment, bias and irresponsibility, that is capable of breaching the hard earned peace in the state and the existing cordial relationship between the adherents of the two major religions,” the commissioner said.
