The United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon was supposed to meet with the #BringBackOurGirls Group at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, but failed to turn up, citing security reasons.
According to the leader of the BBOG, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Ki-Moon did however, meet with representatives of the group where he blamed security reasons for his inability to grace his appointment.
She called on the UN for assistance in organising the global community to help the Nigerian government in the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls and end insurgency in the country.
“We have made a point which is the rescue of the Chibok girls. We have been here for 482 days today and that we will not stop until they are rescued. We hope that the UN will help organise the effort of the global community to help the Nigerian government to rescue our girls,” she said.
“Words are not enough. It is important we have visible action that will lead us to believe that the girls are being looked for. A lot of intelligence gathering have been said to be going on. We are waiting with great anxiety considering the three months deadline that was given by the president to end Boko Haram.
According to him, we cannot say we have succeeded in the fight against Boko Haram without the girls coming back.” she said.
