Only three months after appointing them, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dissolved the 22 local government caretaker committees in the state with immediate effect.
Wike said through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah that the decision to dissolve the caretaker committees became necessary following the expiration of their tenures yesterday.
The only local council not affected is that of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area were the tenure of Austin Ahiamadu, a chairman elected during the administration of Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, has not expired.
The statement from the governor’s spokesman said, “The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has dissolved the 22 local Government Caretaker committees in the state.
“The dissolution is with immediate effect. The 22 caretaker committees are to hand over to the various heads of local government administrations.
“The statutory three months tenure for Caretaker committees expires today.”
