The APC governorship candidate for the December 2015 elections in Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva, has officially announced Elder Wilberforce Agiri as his running mate. The choice of Agiri was a controversial one as Sylva had reportedly promised the state party chairman the Deputy Governorship slot on his ticket.
In addition to announcing his running mate, Sylva also formally launched his campaign office and inaugurated a campaign team to be led by one of the recently screened ministerial nominees of the president, Heineken Lokpobiri. Lokpobiri, a former PDP senator, was screened by the Senate last Thursday but is yet to be confirmed by the senate or given a portfolio by the president. By accepting to head the Sylva campaign, it means Lokpobiri’s attention will likely be divided until after the polls if President Buhari decides to swear ministers in before December.
Sylva expressed confidence in the ability of Lokpobiri, and other directors of the campaign team, to deliver on their mandate.
On his part, Lokpobiri said that the Sylva/Igiri campaign organization will visit every ward to stump for APC and bring victory to the Party. He said “we will ensure that APC wins 99 percent of the votes so that on December 6, 2015 Sylva and Igiri will be sworn in as Governor and Deputy Governor.”
