Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Adesola Amosu, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of massive fraud in the procurement of arms during his tenure.
President Muhammadu Buhari had recently directed the EFCC to investigate the former air chief and other serving and retired military officers over alleged misconduct established against them.
Among those to be investigated include the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, former Chief of Defence Staff, Marshal Alex Badeh and another former Chief of Air Staff, Mohammed Umar. Mr. Dasuki is currently facing charges over alleged $2.1 billion arms procurement deal.
Amosu is reportedly being investigated for authorizing the purchase of two helicopters without functional rotors, among other allegations. He is also to explain his involvement in the Dasuki scam and another N29 billion procurement deals that took place between 2014 and 2015
EFCC investigators have reportedly traced nine luxury homes to Amosu, one of which is in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Ikeja in Lagos State, which is estimated to be more than N350 million.
Only yesterday, the EFCC sealed this estate belonging to a former chief of army staff, Azubuike Ihejirika.
