The 88-member national zoning committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned the positions of national chairman, treasurer and youth leader of the party to the South; while the national secretary, financial secretary and publicity secretary positions have been zoned to the North.
The zoning committee which was co-chaired by the governors of Ebonyi (David Umahi) and Gombe (Ibrahim Dankwambo) was inaugurated last Friday, July 22, and submitted its report today. Former Benue governor, Gabriel Suswam, served as secretary of the committee.
According to a communique released on Tuesday, the committee recommended that “the Chairmanship of the Party be Zoned to the Southern zones bearing in mind that the Presidential Ticket of the Party for 2019 was zoned to the Northern zones as approved by the National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday, May 21, 2016.”
The committee also recommended that the PDP adopts a pattern of zoning by switching positions from North to South and accordingly, and that “the Six (6) National Vice Chairmen be included as members of the National Working Committee (NWC) henceforth.”
Below are the positions zoned to the South for the party’s convention slated for August 7 in Port Harcourt.

The different geopolitical regions in the North and South are expected to vie for the positions allocated to each zone.
