Gujba Emirate Council of Yobe State has suspended two Village Heads and one Sarki Fulani over the diversion of food meant for displaced people.
The village head of Hausari, Lawan Alhaji Hassan, the village Head of Ngomari, Lawan Ngawari and the Sarkin Fulani of Gujba Alhaji Haro were the three men served suspensions in separate letters signed by the secretary of Gujba Emirate Council, Mohammed Ali Yusuf.
“I am directed to write and serve you with a letter of suspension. This followed your nonchalant attitude and act of indiscipline involving breach of the trust and confidence reposed in you, by diverting food items donated by Government for distribution to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Buni Yadi,” the letters read.
“The Emirate Council has expressed dismay over your misconduct and has future directed me to inform you that you have been suspended from your post. In view of the above, you are therefore directed to keep away from the Emirate activities for the period of one month, pending the outcome of the Emirate Council meeting and subsequent resolution please,” it said.
Another letter from the emirate was also sent to Gujba Local Government Chairman informing him of the decision of the emirate, while warning the general public not to engage in any business with the suspended Chiefs.
The Deputy Governor of Yobe State Engr. Abubakar Aliyu who is also the chairman of Yobe State Committee on Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation of IDPs said his committee will not condone any act that will shortchange the welfare of IDPs in the State.
Engr. Aliyu noted that the action taken against the traditional rulers will serve as a deterrent to any intending person with a similar intention.
“We have a responsibility and a mandate and above all integrity and name to protect and we must be accountable to our creator. The action of those people is shameless, humiliating and dishonorable. I am satisfied with the action taken against them because it will give a strong signal to people with a similar intention to carryout such a shameless act that apart from the judgement of Allah, such actions cannot be over looked.
“The punishment will also bring confidence in the systems and tell our donors that we are transparent and serious with whatever we receive from them to cater for the displaced people in the state,” Engr. Aliyu said.
