Two courts in Nigeria with coordinate jurisdiction – the federal high court in Abuja presided over by Justice Okon Abang and the federal high court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice Ibrahim Watila – gave different rulings on Monday concerning the PDP national convention scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt this week.
Abang ordered the interim suspension of the PDP convention while Watila gave the party the go-ahead to conduct the convention. Abang fixed Tuesday for further hearing while Watila ordered INEC to monitor the convention in which new party executives are expected to be elected.
The motion on notice before Justice Watila in Port Harcourt was filed by the Secretary of the PDP National Convention Planning Committee for himself and other members of the National convention Planning Committee. In Abuja meanwhile, Justice Abang blasted Obi for filing the motion when it was already before him. Abang accused Obi of treating the court with levity and said any decision of the Port Harcourt court cannot neutralise what happens in his own court.
