Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to ignore attacks and distractions by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and instead remain focused and committed to pulling Nigeria out of the doldrums engineered by the former ruling party.
In a statement reacting to the PDP’s criticism of the current government, the APC, through its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, put the blame for Nigeria’s current grim economic reality on the PDP and asked the party to apologise to Nigerians.
“In spite of the PDP’s orchestrated and feeble attempts to blackmail the current administration and twist facts, the reality remains that the prevailing socio-economic hardship being faced by Nigerians is a direct consequence of the mismanagement of the economy and unprecedented looting of the country’s commonwealth perpetrated under its watch,” Buni said.
Buni assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to improving the economy and bettering the lot of Nigerians, saying that the administration was working hard to make things better in this dispensation.
“Going forward, the urgent task before the President Buhari-led APC administration is to restore the country’s battered economy back to health and all legitimate and innovative means are being employed to achieve this in the quickest and possible time,” he said.
As part of strategic interventions to salvage the economy, APC said the government is considering diversification of the country’s economy to other sectors such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing as a priority.
“The APC assures Nigerians that the administration will pull the country out of the present hardships. With the support, cooperation, patience and prayers of Nigerians, the country will reach its deserved potential under our leadership,” the statement said.
