Osaro Onaiwu, the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the just concluded Edo governorship poll has confirmed that a viral video on the internet showing him tearing ballot papers at his polling unit in Oredo local government area, is real and not doctored.
In the video, Onaiwu is seen shouting and tearing ballot papers before walking to another polling unit, while a boy upturns a table containing electoral materials with everything strewn on the floor.
“The video they are showing, that is my polling unit. APC thugs brought thugs and took the ballot away. They brought them back and said we should continue counting. I said no and refused the papers to be counted. That was how I threw the ballot papers away,” he said.
“I am not a coward. You cannot return ballot papers that were earlier taken away. All my family members voted for me there and I am expected to win. Let them be sharing the video online.”
Onaiwu who got just 876 votes in the poll said that it was impossible for him to get such low votes when he campaigned across all the local government areas.
He led a protest against the results released by INEC, saying the election was marred by irregularities.
According to Onaiwu, the reason his results were manipulated was because he refused to give bribe to INEC officials when they solicited for it.
He said the police cannot stop anybody from carrying out protests against the outcome of an election conducted by INEC in the state.
