The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele said on Saturday that he won’t be intimidated from performing his duties effectively making an implicit connection between his job and the kidnap of his wife, Margaret.
Margaret was kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday alongside a male driver and three other women along the Benin-Agbor road. She was however released on Friday night. It is unclear if a ransom was paid to secure her release but a ransom of N100 million was reportedly demanded.
In a statement announcing her release, Emefiele resolved to continue to serve the nation diligently and with all his heart “without any fear of intimidation.”
He expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for “their gallantry in bringing his wife back home within 24 hours in compliance with the directive of President Buhari.”
He also expressed his gratitude to the Delta and Edo State governments, friends and well wishers who, “through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end.”
