Kogi assembly and Gov. Bello headed for showdown as assembly sacks four administrators

The Kogi state house of assembly has suspended the administrator of Ijumu Local Government Council, Taofiq Isah, along with four other administrators over financial recklessness. Isah is the state Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON.

The other suspended council administrators are Mr. Baron Okwoli, Igalamela/Odolu; Mr. Moses Akande, Ogori/Magongo; Mr. Moses Olorunleke, Kabba/Bunu and Mr. Abdulrahim Ohiere of Okehi Local Government Council.

The motion to suspend the administrators was raised by Hon. Friday Sani, who also accused them of perpetually being in Lokoja, the state capital, instead of performing their primary responsibility.

“The House must not be undermined. The five administrators should be suspended to allow for investigation. The secretaries of the councils are to act in their stead,” Sani said.

The Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, has however asked the suspended administrators to remain in office as the assembly has not communicated their resolution on the suspension to him.

“The resolution of the House is yet to be communicated to the Governor who appointed the Administrators. Such communication is expected to detail the offences committed by the Administrators,” the governor said in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Petra Akinti Onyegbule.

Gov. Bello advised lawmakers to avoid the temptation of giving room to destructive policies even as he will continue to respect the principle of separation of powers.
