Oppression of Shiites continue: Security operatives demolish worship centre in Jos

There seems to be a concerted effort to break the Shiite sect and prevent its adherents from practicing their faith from Kaduna to Kano and now to Jos, the Plateau state capital.

On Wednesday, a combined team of soldiers and anti-riot policemen stormed the house of the leader of the sect in Jos, Adamu Tsoho, and demolished the sect’s Husaniyya (worship centre) at Angwan Rogo in Jos North local council, according to reports.

Security operatives say that the sect members were gathering at the worship centre to protest against the ban by the Kaduna state government of its activities and the continued detention of its leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

However the sect members insist that they were not meeting to protest but to celebrate ‘Ashura’, which is a day in the Islamic calendar to commemorate the day a grandson of Prophet Muhammad was killed.
