The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, will today meet with the Senate leadership led by senate president, Bukola Saraki, at the secretariat of the party in Abuja. This is the first such meeting between the two sides since Saraki became senate president last year and it signals his growing acceptance and influence within the ruling party.
According to reports, the move is part of a strategy to ensure there is close working relationship between the ruling party and members of its caucus in the national assembly where it has the majority in both chambers.
After today’s meeting, sources say an expanded meeting of the APC caucus in the senate with the party leadership is planned for this month, possibly after the presentation of the budget to the national assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In recent times, Saraki has wormed his way back into the good books of the party leadership and the presidency, becoming a more regular guest at the presidential villa and a seeing a soft-pedaling on the corruption charges against him.
