The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has advocated for a constitutional role for traditional leaders in the country.
According to NAN, Yakubu Dogara made this known on Sunday, during a courtesy visit to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi in Birnin Kebbi, on the sideline of the turbaning ceremony of the Chief Whip of the House, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, as the Dallatun Kangiwa in Arewa Local Government Area of the state.
The Speaker, represented by the Deputy Leader of the House, Umar Jibril, urged Nigerians to promote and give traditional rulers constitutional recognition, because power and authority have been derived from them in the past.
While responding, Governor Bagudu urged Nigerians to go into agriculture, which would diversify the country’s economy.
He called on the National Assembly to make available a process that guarantees increased funding of the agriculture sector.
Reacting to his new title, Doguwa described it as a gesture that would further bridge the gap among Northerners, especially among the people of the North-West
