One of the interesting stories from last year was the interview granted by first lady Aisha Buhari in which she said that she may not support her husband’s reelection bid if “things continue like this up till 2019”. Her big disappointment was that “a few people” are behind appointments in his administration.
Unhappy Zahra: Almost exactly one year after that outburst by the first lady, another member of the first family briefly went rogue over the weekend. Pres. Buhari’s daughter, Zahra, took to Instagram to criticise the state of the State House Medical Center (Aso Rock Clinic). Every year billions of naira (N3 billion in 2017) is allocated to the clinic which serves the President, Vice-President and their families, aides, members of staff of the State House and other entitled public servants. It also serves as a training facility for house officers and other medical personnel.
Like mother, like daughter: Just like Aisha who blamed “a few people” for the state of the health centre, Zahra called out someone else – the Permanent Secretary in the State House, Jalal Arabi – for the decay in the clinic.
Zahra’s posts via her Instagram handle @mrs_zmbi:
- “Why isn’t there simple paracetamol, gloves, syringes why do the patients/staff have to buy what they need in state house clinic? #statehousepermsecplsanswer”
- “More than N3 billion budgeted for state house clinic and the workers there don’t have equipment to work with? Why? #statehousepermsecplsanswer”
- “Where is the money going to? Medication only stock once since the beginning of the year? Why?”
Update: Zahra Buhari has now taken down the post.
