Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, said in a live radio interview program on Sunday that President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed him for a second term in 2019. He stated that now that he has Buhari’s blessings, he would definitely run for a second term.
The governor was earlier endorsed in September by stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State. He said he went to the villa to brief Pres. Buhari on the endorsement, after which “the president gave me the nod to seek re-election together with my deputy.”
Sani’s shot: Recall that the party stakeholders who endorsed El-Rufai for a second term also endorsed Pres. Buhari. At the time, Kaduna senator Shehu Sani said El-Rufai “cannot win election without mentioning the name of Buhari. He doesn’t like Buhari but want him just to win elections. They are opposites.” With the governor’s public claim that he has received Buhari’s endorsement, the senator will feel like he called that one right.
El-Rufai’s caveat: The Kaduna governor made it clear during the interview that his endorsement by the president does not mean that any person interested in the governorship cannot come. He said he is ready to face anybody in a free contest in order to clinch the party’s ticket for a second term.
