Following the uproar raised over the recall and promotion of the former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed his immediate disengagement from service.
Maina’s recall and promotion to director of human resources at the ministry of Interior shocked the nation last weekend as he has been at large since 2013 when details of the alleged theft of up to N100 billion surfaced. A warrant of arrest issued by the EFCC for Maina still subsists till date.
The minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, released a statement over the weekend trying to shirk responsibility for the recall of Maina and engagement in his ministry. His response only served to further increase the disapproval of Nigerians.
A statement on Monday by Pres. Buhari’s special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, said that “in a memo to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the President equally demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior.”
The report is to be submitted to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, before the end of work today, Monday, October 23, 2017.
