Of all the issues currently facing the people of Rivers state, the two most important for the state governor Nyesom Wike are:
- spending to lobby for Uche Secondus to emerge as PDP national chairman; and
- spending money on national assembly members who are already earning humongous sums.
On Monday, Wike released 16 Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs to representatives of the state in the National Assembly. Three of the vehicles are for senators, while 13 are for members of the House of Represenattives.
National Assembly members elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC including Senator Magnus Abe and Senator Andrew Uchendu are also beneficiaries of the 2018 Lexus Jeep although they were not present at the presentation ceremony on Monday, and have not confirmed if they would take possession of the cars.
Members of the House of Representatives led by Betty Apiafi, Leader Rivers Caucus of the House of Representatives and Bari Mpigi, Deputy Leader, Rivers State House of Representatives caucus, took possession of their own vehicles.
Gov. Wike told the lawmakers that he government acquired the vehicles to aid the federal lawmakers in the discharge of their official functions.”
“The vehicles are for all members of the National Assembly irrespective of their party affiliation. Defend the interest of the state wherever you are. This is from the Government of Rivers State which you are part of. This is to aid you to carry out your official functions in Abuja,” he said.
