Quick Take: Data shows that “immorality” has increased by 2% in Kano in one year

According to figures released by the Kano Hisbah board, Kano State is more immoral today than it was a year ago.

The board announced in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Malam Umar Yahaya, that it recorded 98,217 cases of social ills  in the year 2017.

However, this number reflects a 1.96% increase compared to the number of cases recorded in 2016 which stood at about 96,323 cases.

According to the board, the cases include “debts, disagreements among neighbours, prostitution, breastfeeding as well as consumption of alcohol.”

The board said it remains committed to its mandate of “ridding the society of social ills,” and that efforts will be intensified to create a “society free of social ills.”

Recall:

Just a week ago, the Kano State Police Command released its own figures showing that crime in the state has declined in 2017 compared to 2016. But the Hisbah (moral police) saw a rise in its own data.

Also recall:

Sokoto state Hisbah released its own data, with a focus on rape cases, less than two weeks ago.
