Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was in Ekiti on Wednesday where he met with the state governor, Ayo Fayose.
Atiku decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in November 2017, and even though he has not declared yet to be president, he is regarded as one of the frontrunners to clinch the PDP ticket.
Interestingly, Fayose has already declared for president. But he is not seen as a strong challenger because the party has zoned the ticket to the North. It is widely believed that Fayose’s main play is to be chosen as running mate to whoever emerges candidate of the party.
A statement from the Atiku media office was sketchy on the details of the visit. The only thing offered was that: “The former Vice President inspected some ongoing projects in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.” The names of the projects inspected were not stated.
