President Muhammadu Buhari has declined his assent to the Peace Corp Establishment bill passed by the National Assembly in 2017.
In a letter read by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday, Buhari cited the following:
- Security concerns;
- Financial implications;
- That the agency would be a duplication of other security agencies.
Recall that the two chambers of the national assembly passed the bill in 2016 and harmonised it in 2017 before sending it to the president.
