Nigeria’s political and business elite turned up in style on Friday in Kano for the wedding fatiha of Fatima Dangote, the daughter of Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and Jamil Abubakar, the son of former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
Among the dignitaries at the event were President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, former head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, former national security adviser Aliyu Gusau, several state governors, members of the national assembly, cabinet ministers, traditional rulers, members of the diplomatic community and businessmen.
The wedding took place at about noon at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II. The emir conducted the ceremony and was assisted by the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen.
President Buhari acted as the guardian of the bride, the same role he played two weeks ago at the wedding between the daughter of the Kano governor and son of the Oyo governor. The president received the sum of N500,000 as dowry from the guardian of the groom.
Only yesterday, the traditional wedding engagement of the daughter of the Vice President, Damilola Osinbajo to her fiance, Oluseun Bakare took place at the presidential villa. The wedding is expected to take place this weekend.
