As part of his consultations towards winning the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nomination for 2019, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid a visit to the last President elected on the PDP platform, Goodluck Jonathan.
The visit took place at the former president’s country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa.
Atiku was elected in 1999 as Nigeria’s vice president upon the return of democracy in 1999. A spectacular fallout with his former boss, Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo, led to his defection to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) where he vied for the presidency in 2007. Since then he has returned to the PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and back to the PDP again last year.
His many defections are believed to be due to his longstanding desire to be president.
While in the APC, he frequently attacked Jonathan who was running for reelection at the time.
